World Hepatitis Day 2020 (28 July 2020)

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that can cause a variety of different health problems. Although there are 5 main strains of viral hepatitis (types A, B, C, D, and E), types B and C are the most common globally, with approximately 325 million people worldwide living with hepatitis B and/or C [1].

Some strains (A, B, and D) can be prevented through vaccination. One WHO study found that 4.5 million hepatitis-related deaths could prevented in low- and middle-income countries by 2030 if vaccinations, diagnostic testing, access to medications, and educational campaigns were more widespread [1].
